EVENT: International Cultures Parade

DETAILS: The 18th Annual INTERNATIONAL CULTURES PARADE: Cultural Understanding for World Peace took place on Sunday, September 14, 2003. Over thirty contingents representing different countries and ethnic groups strolled down Madison Avenue between 41st & 27th Streets, celebrating their cultural heritage with traditional costumes, music and dance. For the first time in the history of the U.S.-based Albanian diaspora, Albania was one of the contingents. Leading the parade, Albanian American Women’s Organization (AAWO) staff and members proudly represented Albania dressed in various national costumes and waving the Albanian flag. It was a unique educational and cultural experience offering the opportunity to promote America’s tradition of unity through diversity with a cultural “trip around the world in one day.” The International Immigrants Foundation (IIF) organized the International Cultures Parade. |
